Bling: Consequences and Diamonds

I urge you to watch this documentary about Diamonds and how they make their way to the jewelry you see on Mtv every day. It's narrated by Chuck D and features some music from Public Enemy. You can watch it in quicktime or windows media player on their website.
Bling: Consequences and Diamonds
I would like to mention that while I agree that a lot of iced-out rappers are irresponsible and set a bad example, they are not purely to blame for glamorizing diamond jewelry. Hip hop has been a scapegoat for many issues and I think it's worth mentioning that hip hop styles - and the music itself - has always been inspired by and has borrowed from other music, styles and culture. Hip hop didn't invent diamond jewelry. (although maybe they did take it to the next level) Wasn't Liberace flossing his ice long before Paul Wall or Nelly? Leave your comments below.

I found the footage was so engaging that I had to back to really comprehend the naration.
Im assuming there are trusted diamond dealers or some sort of "non-dirty diamonds" designation that people could look for , no?
Also , they got some of their footage from Gorilla News Network, which if Im not mistaken are associated with Emergency Broadcast Network , the multimedia group. they have a page of docs. here too

some seem to be interesting - like the tribute to the journalist. the audio seems f'ed up when i view some of them (that could be on my end though)
If hip hop is the music of the street and strives to lift thought, shouldn't they be concerned about their brothers of the streets of Africa that mine this Earth we live on and get slaughtered and disabled for the crap they wear in the USA. Wouldn't it be much easier to drop this aristocratic luxury item from your image and choose something more free of shame. Time to step up again and do the right thing here. It would be much more original as well to stop this and let others know about why you chose to stop, than to just follow a trend of diamonds that has a trail of blood and horror at the end.
Yeah they are not the first to wear diamonds but most hip hop artists (I would hope) are willing to change once they see the atrocities going on to the poor around the world for these items. We all need to raise the worlds consciousness in anyway we can at this time.
