The Grandmasters - GZA & Muggs

I have been posting old records and 45's lately but here is some gritty NEW hip hop that's got me amped. I haven't gotten this hyped off a video since Ghostface's Run. DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill) and the GZA (Wu-Tang Clan) have teamed up to release an album entitled the Grandmasters. They (like myself) have not given up on that classic hip hop formula of banging sampled dirty drum breaks with simple but dope samples and blazing rhymes. This is that true hip hop sh*t people.

Check out the video for General Principles

This video is sick. I like that they threw in the old school footage from Wild Style (In Color) while the current video footage is black and white. (Cameos from Rakaa Iriscience (Dilated Peoples), Babu (Dilated and Beat Junkies), DJ Rhettmatic (Beat Junkies), and a couple guys I don't recognize.)

Here's an mp3 from the album:
All In Together
The Grandmasters (GZA & DJ Muggs)
(mp3 format, 4:24 mins, 3.6 mb)

You can preview and buy the album here.

First of all I want to say that this album is blazin. As soon as Z posted this I went out an bought the album. My favorites are Exploitation of Mistakes (4), General Principles (5), Queen's Gambit (7), All in Together (8), Illusory Protection (11).

What is very signifiganat about Illusory Protection is they delibrately produced that joint to sound like something that came out of the mid 90s. Sounds like something that came out the camp of EPMD, specifically the Business Never Personal album.

The video is blaze too. I'm mad amped right now. I'm about to do a back spin in the office.
